Interview – Kim Doyul

Korean singer Kim Doyul is slowly finding his own direction in music. He didn’t grow up in a musical family or with a clear plan — it really started with him watching Super Junior on TV and thinking, “I want to do that too.” That simple moment stayed with him, and years later it pushed him toward his first group activities and eventually to trying things on his own.

His solo track Rainy Day became an important step, not because it was a big commercial move, but because it was the first time he felt he was doing something that sounded like him. Until now, most of his work abroad happened in Japan, and Europe always felt far away — something he hoped for but didn’t know when it would happen.

This year, things changed. Doyul will perform at the Korea Touch Festival on July 4, 2026, which also happens to be his first time on a European stage. He sees it as a chance to meet fans he has never seen in person and to start building something new outside Asia. Before the event, he shared a bit about his journey and what this moment means to him.

1. What inspired you to begin your career as an artist?

Kim Doyul: “I grew up watching Super Junior and dreaming of becoming a singer. Thanks to good opportunities, I was able to start group activities and begin my career.”

2. What has been the biggest turning point in your career?

Kim Doyul: “The biggest turning point was releasing my first solo song. It was a genre I love and feel confident in, so with Rainy Day, my solo artist activities truly began.”

3. What led you to start activities in Europe?

Kim Doyul: “Until now, the only foreign country I had visited for activities was Japan. But I always wanted to sing for fans around the world. When this opportunity came, I was really happy.”

4. Why did you decide to participate in the Korea Touch Festival?

Kim Doyul: “This event will be my first European stage. I heard that many K‑pop fans would attend, and it felt like the perfect festival for me. I told my company that I really wanted to go.”

5. A message for your international fans?

Kim Doyul: “My first European stage is beginning, and I will work harder to bring good music and performances to fans in many countries. Please continue to show love and support for artist Kim Doyul.”

On a personal note, this interview meant more than just presenting an artist’s journey. The first time I heard More Day, something clicked — the kind of moment when a song stops you for a second and stays with you. That feeling naturally grew into genuine admiration for his work. 1. 가수 활동을 시작하게 된 계기는 무엇인가요?

김도율: “어릴 때 슈퍼주니어를 보며 가수를 꿈꿨습니다. 좋은 기회들이 이어져 그룹 활동을 시작하며 가수로 데뷔할 수 있었습니다.”

2. 지금까지 가장 큰 전환점은 무엇인가요?

김도율: “가장 큰 전환점은 첫 솔로곡을 발표한 순간입니다. 제가 좋아하고 자신 있는 장르였기 때문에 Rainy Day로 진정한 솔로 활동이 시작되었습니다.”

3. 유럽 활동을 시작하게 된 특별한 계기가 있었나요?

김도율: “지금까지 해외 활동은 일본이 유일했습니다. 하지만 항상 전 세계 팬들 앞에서 노래하고 싶었습니다. 이번 기회를 얻게 되어 정말 기뻤습니다.”

4. Korea Touch Festival에 참여하게 된 이유는 무엇인가요?

김도율: “이번 공연은 제 첫 유럽 무대입니다. 많은 K‑pop 팬들이 참석한다고 들었고, 저에게 완벽한 행사라고 느꼈습니다. 회사에 꼭 가고 싶다고 직접 말했습니다.”

5. 해외 팬들에게 전하고 싶은 메시지가 있나요?

김도율: “제 첫 유럽 무대가 시작됩니다. 앞으로 더 많은 나라의 팬들에게 좋은 음악과 공연을 보여드릴 수 있도록 열심히 노력하겠습니다. 아티스트 김도율에게 많은 사랑과 응원 부탁드립니다.”
